PARC
PARC stands for the “Pinellas Association for Retarded Children.” Although PARC has its roots in caring for children with development disabilities, the organization serves both children and adults.
Established
in 1953 by a group of parents who had children with Down syndrome, PARC
was originally named the Peter Pan School and was located in Pinellas Park.
Though the years PARC had grown into a large social services agency that
now serves adults as well as children with development disabilities.
In
2000 The Old Salt Fishing Club selected PARC to be one of there designated
charities. While Club President Jimmy Hasson and the board of the Old Salts
recognized PARC as an organization that makes a difference in the Tampa
Bay community. During his tenure, PARC received funding for many projects
that otherwise may not have happened. Over $18,000 has been donated to PARC,
from the Old Salt Club in just 2 short years! These dollars have gone to
upgrading and enhancing the children’s playground. Another important
project was making improvements on the two cottages here on the PARC campus.
